RHLTC Inter County
The club sponsors teams at all levels of Inter County (Majors, A, B, C) and we are fortunate to have an abundance of skilled players at every level. Inter County tennis is a competitive league, as such, we want to ensure our teams are competitive and that players are playing at the right level. We do recognize that there are many factors to be considered when it comes to players selection, however, we are looking to adopt a more transparent and fair approach to the player selection process.
Clubs Responsibilities
Prior to tryouts, the club appoints team captains for the upcoming season and we ask captains to canvass their players from the past season to determine their status for the upcoming season. Captains are to inform the Club Captain of their requirements and number of open spots available. The club will hold tryouts for all new players and current players with a win/loss percentage less than 60% to determine skill level.
The club will hold tryouts as follows: Majors and A, followed by B's and C's which will allow us to properly compare skill levels of current and new members. The Club captain will inform all new players of their status after tryouts. The Club will encourage captains to monitor players statistics and we will require all players with win/loss percentages of 60% or less to attend team tryouts the following year. The club may hire an independent Pro to review and rate players at tryouts.
Captains Responsibilities
Captains will inform players of their playing status and will be expected to follow the fair play rules and all ICTA rules. Captains must ensure all players are fully paid up members before using players in any league matches, under no circumstance will a captain use a non member to play in any league matches. Captains will enter the names of all players used in matches on the ICTA website. If a team requires spares, they will draw players from the level below and they will not use the same players more than 2 times without the permission of the club captain and the players current team captain.
Players Responsibilities
Players are to insure they are fully paid-up members of the Richmond Hill Lawn Tennis Club prior to playing any league matches. They are to ensure their names and scores are entered accurately into the ICTA database. Players with a win/loss percentage of less than 50% are required to attend tryouts the following year. We encourage all players to speak with their team captain to determine the captains game strategy/philosophy.
For Mixed Inter County, the club recommends teams consist of 16 players (10 men, 6 ladies), however, some captains may carry more players which may affect the number of matches you play. Please speak with your captain in advance to determine how often you can expect to play. Keeping in mind that this is a competitive league, injuries do happen and vacation can be an issue.
